Make mediation in divorce proceedings mandatory
The number of conflictual divorces has decreased due to extra attention for mediation. But too many contested divorces still take place in the Netherlands. Mandatory mediation not only saves money and time, but above all saves children a lot of suffering. So why doesn't the government take action? Many parents start a divorce with the intention of reaching a good agreement together. But if finances play a role, a house or a dependency situation, things quickly become complicated and there is a greater chance of escalation.
