Parenting plan
When parents divorce, they are required to draw up a parenting plan. This is laid down in the law. The parenting plan must at least regulate the following subjects:
- Parents must make agreements about the division of care and upbringing tasks. They also agree at which address the children will be registered in the municipal basic administration. In other words, where will the children have their main residence after the divorce and which days will they stay with one parent and with the other;
- They must arrange how they will provide each other with information and how they will consult each other about important decisions, such as choosing a school, moving house, etc.;
- They determine the costs of the children (child support) and who will pay which costs;
- Finally, parents must inform their children in an age-appropriate manner about what they have agreed upon as parents regarding the children.
Villa Pinedo
Parents often need practical support and specific advice when making agreements about their children.
Our office supports the Villa Pinedo foundation (www.villapinedo.nl) and they can help you with specific information about the position of children in a divorce. Villa Pinedo is the place in the Netherlands where children of divorced parents share their experiences, advise and support each other. In addition, the experienced young people of Villa Pinedo make adults aware of what is going on in their heads and hearts. Villa Pinedo works together with young people to change the behavior of parents, in the interest of the child. Villa Pinedo has developed an online workshop “For all divorced parents”. This workshop lasts six weeks and every week you will receive videos and assignments in which children of divorced parents can share their experiences and give advice. The assignments were made by child therapists from the Lorentzhuis. Our office offers this workshop free of charge to all divorced parents.
You may also need specific help from an educational psychologist or child psychologist in drawing up the parenting plan. Our office works with a number of permanent experts.
